AFAIK It's only the frogs who insist on Speedo style attire in public pools, I've tried to find out the reason on numerous occasions but I've never heard a satisfactory answer. They insist on rubber hats too.

Maybe Le Rosbif can enlighten us? There’s a first time for everything.

Also some hotels in the US are now insisting no shorts.

I would say baggy shorts are good for the wild outdoors, seem to me a bit out of place in a swimming pool. I wear baggy shorts if I'm out in the Atlantic, which reminds me I must book another week in Tenerife sometime.

Some water parks have begun to ban shorts. The material used apparently messes up the slides.
