Sky+HD is great. I can understand people raving about Sky+ but I previously had a Humax Freeview PVR which at the time was really something so I didn;t notice too much difference in functionality. Anyway HD is great - Blu-ray or Sky/Freesat HD is brilliant - having decent sound though is just as essential as a decent picture.

I'll wait for the technology to improve and the standards to settle down.
I'll stick to my Sony CRT which still knocks spots of most LCD/Plasmas in terms of non-HD picture quality.Comment

A good CRT will still beat LCD's and Plasmas on SD but most of the degradation is due to source being stretched over the increased screen size, you really need to buy a screen that fits your viewing distance which in most cases would be no more than 8-9 feet.Originally posted by Clippy View PostWHS.

A 50 incher will look absolutely crap from that distance with an SD source.Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave JohnsonComment

A lot depends on the quality of the source - we watch a 50" plasma from less than 10 feet away and some SD sources/channels are quite decent.Originally posted by gingerjedi View PostA good CRT will still beat LCD's and Plasmas on SD but most of the degradation is due to source being stretched over the increased screen size, you really need to buy a screen that fits your viewing distance which in most cases would be no more than 8-9 feet.
