Sharia is a much more than chopping off hands or hanging gays and apostates.
Islam has a long legal tradition based on the teachings of the prophet. In many cases it is fair to all parties.
We may not like some of it and some of it may seem barbaric to us, but to Muslims it is part of their daily life and a lot of them would be happier with it as the legal system.
It is part and parcel of Islam.

Though I sure as hell wouldn't want to live under sharia law (I agree with the separation of church and state) I equally have no objections to someone voluntarily choosing to do so, and I can appreciate in some respects it's probably very fair.
