The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.
But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.” -

You don't.Originally posted by Bagpuss View PostI can't see how you can absorb so much if you excreet it with food?
It still gets absorbed, just over a longer period of time.
When you eat, the sphincter at the base of the stomach closes to hold the food in the stomach and allow it to be digested. Any alchohol you drink after eating also gets held in the stomach.
This alchohol gets absorbed through the stomach lining. This is not very efficient so it is absorbed relativly slowly. Normally only 20-30% of the alchohol would be absorbed in the stomach, the rest in the small intestine.
Because it is held in the stomach longer more of it is absorbed there over a longer period of time. By the time the food is digested and the sphincter opens to allow it to move into the small intestine you may have absorbed 40-50% of the alchohol over 4 or 5 hours. The remaining alchohol is absorbed through the small intestine relatively quickly and generates the peak alchohol level in the blood at this point. Because you've already been metabolishing the alchohol absorbed from the stomach in the previous few hours your final blood alchohol level will not be as high as if you hadn't eaten.
Whatever is left after the remains have moved through the bowel and are ready to be excreted will only contain trace amounts of alchohol. The overall amount you absorb is the same.Last edited by DaveB; 12 June 2009, 10:58."Being nice costs nothing and sometimes gets you extra bacon" - Pondlife.Comment

It takes time for your body to realise that it's got plenty of fluids available so it can start getting rid of some. That and the fact that Alcohol is a diuretic.Comment
