How can anybody be worth £500(or whatever) a day ?

80k a week, or 11,430 a day for 60,000 to come and watch. By that yardtick of worth, I'd expect circa 2625 people to turn up to watch you program.

The general public that you sneer at a probably a better judge of value than you are. We could all be brain surgeons or entertainers or software architects if we wanted to be, but we choose not to. We choose to be a nurse or a first line support person or whatever even if the job pays £20k per year. What these people dont want is some patronising liberal telling them that they are "worth more"

Would you even patronise the average surgeon and tell him that he is underpaid for what he does? I reckon that if you did he would smack you in the mouth.

No matter how hard I try, I just dont find surgery funny or the least bit entertaining.

This is the problem with socialists. They have no idea of supply and demand with regard to top skills and how those skills actually generate wealth in the private sector.

With all due respect Dodgy, you are probably in the worst position to value a person's skills, since all you consider is their net worth and margin. That's the bottom line for you.

It may have escaped your knowledge, but there is an awful lot more to people than the 2 things mentioned above.

Reducing people to their net worth and margin is a dehumanising process, and at best, shows a complete disregard for others. At worst, it's deliberate exploitation.

I disagree. Whilst we may all have the opportunity to be any of the above, it comes down to skill, or talent or training. Even environment.

Is there anything patronising about asking people to reassess the value they place in people ? I don't think so.

I'm concerned with the cult of celebrity and how a large amount of the population are manipulated to value people far above their true worth, whilst at the same time ignore others who are just as deserving.

That's social engineering with a media bent, and it only serves the vested interests of the few.

I can find out. I'm not going to ask the question in the way you advocate, since by virtue it is not the way to chat with people. I'll just ask something along the lines of "Why is a footballer paid 80K a week for his job and yet you earn approx 100K a year for yours ?"

Most people are too dumb or haven't the fine motor skills to be a brain surgeon. Most people are too dumb or haven't sufficient abstraction ability to make it as a software architect. Most people haven't the practical ability, or interpersonal skills, or wit to be an entertainer. Most people haven't the ball skill to be a professional footballer.

I disagree. Never been one but most recruitment agents I have known have shown a mix of the following:

Determined, resourceful, thick-skinned, creative, orators, salesmen, negotiators etc etc.

Just because they are less tangible skills, doesn't mean they are not skills surely?
