How can anybody be worth £500(or whatever) a day ?

80k a week, or 11,430 a day for 60,000 to come and watch. By that yardtick of worth, I'd expect circa 2625 people to turn up to watch you program.
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

DA posted : You seem to be obsessed with surgeons and money. Are you really that low that you judge everyone by how much money they earn. Does it not occur to you that if Surgeons wanted to earn £80k per week then they would become professional footballers?
I'm just trying to make a point that as a rule, the general public seem to accept this and don't question it.

We pay the people who matter a little, and the people who don't matter a lot.

(I'm not asking for a rate rise btw, I'm just a computer fixer-upper for 19 sites, and compared to a software architect who deals with large multi-nationals, they are more skilled than me and deserve more anyway.)

It's the national obession or indeed the world obession with devaluing the important things and valuing the trivial.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

The general public that you sneer at a probably a better judge of value than you are. We could all be brain surgeons or entertainers or software architects if we wanted to be, but we choose not to. We choose to be a nurse or a first line support person or whatever even if the job pays £20k per year. What these people dont want is some patronising liberal telling them that they are "worth more"

Would you even patronise the average surgeon and tell him that he is underpaid for what he does? I reckon that if you did he would smack you in the mouth.

No matter how hard I try, I just dont find surgery funny or the least bit entertaining.
Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyone

This is the problem with socialists. They have no idea of supply and demand with regard to top skills and how those skills actually generate wealth in the private sector.

With all due respect Dodgy, you are probably in the worst position to value a person's skills, since all you consider is their net worth and margin. That's the bottom line for you.

It may have escaped your knowledge, but there is an awful lot more to people than the 2 things mentioned above.

Reducing people to their net worth and margin is a dehumanising process, and at best, shows a complete disregard for others. At worst, it's deliberate exploitation.

We could all be brain surgeons or entertainers or footballers or software architects if we wanted to be, but we choose not to
I disagree. Whilst we may all have the opportunity to be any of the above, it comes down to skill, or talent or training. Even environment.

What these people dont want is some patronising liberal telling them that they are "worth more"
Is there anything patronising about asking people to reassess the value they place in people ? I don't think so.

I'm concerned with the cult of celebrity and how a large amount of the population are manipulated to value people far above their true worth, whilst at the same time ignore others who are just as deserving.

That's social engineering with a media bent, and it only serves the vested interests of the few.

For <insert name of Deity>'s sake, Dodgy, do you enjoy accepting the status quo, safe in the knowledge that as long as you are ok, then there's no need to challenge things ?

Would you even patronise the average surgeon and tell him that he is underpaid for what he does? I reckon that if you did he would smack you in the mouth.
I can find out. I'm not going to ask the question in the way you advocate, since by virtue it is not the way to chat with people. I'll just ask something along the lines of "Why is a footballer paid 80K a week for his job and yet you earn approx 100K a year for yours ?"

              Why not the reverse ?

              Supply and demand..yeah of course.

It's obvious that we all need footballers, they are so essential.

              Doctors ? Pah...

Most people are too dumb or haven't the fine motor skills to be a brain surgeon. Most people are too dumb or haven't sufficient abstraction ability to make it as a software architect. Most people haven't the practical ability, or interpersonal skills, or wit to be an entertainer. Most people haven't the ball skill to be a professional footballer.

I see where your error arose though - since being a recruitment agent requires no special skills at all.

I disagree. Never been one but most recruitment agents I have known have shown a mix of the following:

Determined, resourceful, thick-skinned, creative, orators, salesmen, negotiators etc etc.

Just because they are less tangible skills, doesn't mean they are not skills surely?

Throw in devious, dishonest and self-serving and you have the recipe that made Tony Blair the man he is.
