This is my first post on the forum, have been reading it for a long time however!

Got this reply from my MP Richard Benyon.

Thank you for your recent correspondence about Early Day Motion (EDM) 1124, on Section 12 of the Finance Act 2000, commonly referred to as ‘IR35’.

The IR35 provisions, which seek to prevent individuals avoiding tax and class one National Insurance Contributions, have been contentious ever since their introduction. The Conservatives are concerned about the intentions behind IR35, but we must think carefully about how to resolve this complicated issue. It is not as simple as just abolishing the provisions altogether.

For a long time, my colleague Mark Prisk MP, Shadow Minister for Business, has been consulting with freelance workers on the impact of IR35. We understand that, in the eyes of those it affects, it is an overly-complex tax mechanism, and it is an area that we wish to look into in more detail.

I have made the Shadow Business team aware of your concerns, and can assure you that we will continue to review the IR35 provisions.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to contact me

          c'mon folks,
we've been stalled on 114 for a while now.
If you haven't done so, E-Mail your MP.

And to Dr. William Mc Crea.

Given the current financial crisis, and the enormous black hole in the public finances, do you not think MPs of all parties will be looking to increase the tax burden over the next few years?

Rather than reduce it for a minority.

            Sorry to be negative.....

Congratulations on completely missing the point.

Can this thread be binned yet? Has the EDM expired?

It's still on the Parliament web site.

They really do have a rubbish web site, it doesn't say which EDMs are open and which are closed.

So, I had an idea. I looked at the list of all open EDM's, and sorted it by number of votes. The IR35 EDM has 121.

The only open EDM on the list with 121 votes is a bill entitled "Save the cheque campaign", so I'm presuming the IR35 one has expired or something...

More than likely. Think it is about time this thread was left to expire. Fingers crossed the same will happen to IR35 sooner rather than later...
