Early Day Motion to repeal IR35

Just had a reply from my MP (Paul Rowen).

"Dear Mr Scooby,

thank you, blah blah, I am happy to have signed EDM1124 as i believe it is incredibly important that freelancers like you are not neglected during this recession.

there is absolutely no evidence IR35 is rasing revenue for the the treasury so it is imperative that it is scrapped. penalising hard working and enterprising individuals is not the way forward blah blah

I have just tabled a question to the Dept of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform on this issue and hope to hear from the minister, Lord Mandelson, soon. i will update you on his response.

wrote a nice letter to my MP, looked up his address and found that he's standing down at the next election - you guess it - flipping expenses.

Mine is a minister and says as such he can't support early day motions, he also thought that IR35 stoped people from "walking out of a job on friday, setting up a comapny, going back to their previous employer on monday and getting all tax benfits of a LTD", or words to that effect.

He also voted to the iraq war, voted against the iraq war enquiry, and voted for restrictions on public disclosure for MP's expenses, whilst having one of the highest expense claims in parliment (around 250K if i remember correctly). Guess who i'll not be voting for next year?

I suspect the Right Hon Gentleman cannot support Early Day Motions as hes probably never out of his bed before 10am ; understandable after hitting the tiles the previous night - all on expenses too .

Mind you 250k is chicken feed,

Just got a response from my tory MP Ian Taylor saying he won't support it. He's standing down at next election too following expenses scandal (2nd home thing). Nice one Ian - enjoy your pension paid for in part by taxes raised from IR35.
