Living right in Central London

I mean Covent Garden or Westminster. Not even the whole zone 1 really. Or Victoria/Charing Cross let's say...

I was thinking of a family situation because, well, there is no doubt that it would be like a dream for a young and funky single to live there...

Some really really nice streets tucked away in and around Westminster and Chelsea.

Any experience of people living right in the center of London? And I mean Covent Garden or Westminster, no, I don't mean Richmond or Kew Gardens sorry.... :-)

What is it like if you have children to be there?
Sounds like afterall it is not that incredibly expensive as people might think.

It's off Drury Lane, which is bang in the middle of the West End. Don't expect much peace and quiet in the surrounding area. Not family property material imo.

But that's exactly my point. It's not that expensive afterall. Ok that flat is about 1700-1800 a month. But you save on council tax and transport to go out (you can walk to anything). Beats a flat in a good zone 2 area at 1500 a month plus more council tax.

That's right. I was in Victoria, found it cheap, but lonely - my wife does not do central London one bit and I find it so diverting. Truly it anit all that.. in small doses it's amazing anything more than a few months and Londoner's get on my t$ts. Shoving out the way tutting if they cannot pass you.. etc etc...they are most important thing in the universe... etc.. I'm a tainted man glad to be living in overgrown town - ooop north like.

Council tax is as cheap as chips - seriously.

The closer you get to the MP's the cheaper living becomes really..

Westminster council tax is cheap. Camden isn't.

The property in question is in Camden, I believe.

It seems to me that its the slow, dawdling tourists and Northerners who think they are so important they can slow everybody down. So they saunter along the tube platforms 3 abreast during rush hour and then wonder why Londoners tut and shove them out of the way?

I've lived in W1 for the past 5 years or so, either marylebone or fitzrvovia.

Love it. Rent is expensive but compares with nicer areas out in the sticks like notting hill, hampstead etc. I save a lot on taxis / zone 10 season tickets and, most importanly to me, a lot of time getting out and about. If you can stick to westminster (not camden) council tax is cheap.

I dont have kids, although plenty of people do. There are more schools in zone 1 that you might think.

I could never get bored of it, but then I also relalise its other peoples' idea of a nightmare. Horses for courses and all that.

I lived in marylebone. I really liked it because everywhere was very walkable. Oxford St was a 15 minute walk away and Euston was a couple of stops on the underground.

Central london does have the cheapest council tax in the (council tax is a very important consideration when living in london some broughs charge over £1500 for the year) and lots of open spaces if you have kids, I used to live across the road from Regents park if you need some greenery.

Used to own a tiny flat in Fitzrovia 10 yrs ago. Absolutely loved it great part of town to be. Gutted when I sold it on.

Northerners tend to be lost and bewildered when they come to London. Often they are to be found standing in dreary pubs mumbling incoherently.
