    .

Yeah the dark matter stuff - we cracked that one in around 2017 or was it 2018 ?

That raised a few eyebrows - things were never quite the same afterwards.

    Good season for Liverpool though.

Euclid – a mission to study dark energy - and SPICA - a far-infrared mission which builds on the heritage of Herschel- are being studied for a possible launch around 2017

I’m sure our alien visitors would find our economic perils rather amusing. Imagine them sitting up there saying ‘look at those silly cnuts’.
And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014

I was gazing up at the night sky the other evening, and a thought crossed my mind.

Assuming that other lifeforms are out there, (and since there are billions upon billions of galaxies, with billions upon billions of stars, the odds are quite good), and assuming that they are just as interested as we are in finding out if there is anything "out there", how would they announce themselves to the interstellar community ? (assuming they would, ofc)

Let's assume that even if they did have spaceships, the travelling to other planets would take tens of thousands of years in some cases, millions in others.

So how would they try and communicate ? Even in rudimentary terms ?

        I'd go for LIGHT.

It's about the fastest thing available, and easy to construct a device to send pulses or waves of light out in to space.

True, in AU terms, Light may be fast but it will still take anywhere up to 50 to millions of years to travel, BUT it's still a darn sight faster than our spacecraft technology and possibly the aliens as well.

Hence, scanning all parts of the light spectrum would be my most favourable bet, looking for non-random patterns.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Surely "light" is just another "section" of the Electro Magnetic Spectrum(EMS)?

What's the difference between that and other sections of the EMS?

Not every species on Earth "sees" in the same way...

Thank you Mr Churchill, since my physics isn't that comprehensive.

Hence, I'll revise my theory and say that the best chances of sending a signal outside the local solar system, and off in to space, would be to flood the whole wavelength of the EMS, in order to reach as many eyes as possible.

            Thanks !

Hey buddy, no problem. Didn't mean to come across as abrasive or anything.

The EMS as we know it exists in a certain number of dimensions and is subdivided into a number of polarisations.

Who's to say that we "see" the whole thing?

A ufo was spotted apparently at obamas inauguration. So going with the time travelling humans theory, his presidency will be interesting enough to warrant some time travel tourism.

And going with the theory some more, recent weeks have seen a rise in ufo sightings in england. Therefore we live in interesting times.

Financial collapse, modern day pandemic. What's next I wonder.

Also British Aerospace are currently testing their latest generation of UAV.

Quite sexy it looks too - if you're into that kind of thing.
