Seems it was noit malicious : just stupidity. The kids decided to get rid of a rock : the other child got in the way!

The other lad will be ok : no stiches. It is under the hairline too in case of scarring. I am pleased : not that it makes my lad's behaviour acceptable. He just has so little social interaction skills. He is only aware of his own little world.

Its the twin's birthday party on Sunday : the other lad was already invited but not replied yet. I hope he comes. Though I doubt it. My son has written him a letter offering him the biggest piece of birthday cake.

I am a bit shocked the school are doing so little. If it was the other way round I would be most unhappy.

Next time it could be baby BP who gets hurt. This is not on.

I am pushing the school to get extra help asap. Next Tuesday I have a follow up appointment with the Dr that wrote his assessment. I will push for the maximum possible assistance.

Just have to think of sanctions at home now. It will be severe.

IMO sanctions which are too prolonged and too severe just p*ss the child off and can lead to worse behaviour.

Re: Pleomax "the school gets wads of cash" - yes they do, which is why the county will delay and avoid funding as much as possible. The school might like statemented kids but the county does NOT (I've dated a SENCO so I do know a bit about this).

Ask the SENCO if your child can see the EP (Educational Psychologist) or better still find a specialist yourself and get the tests done, send the results to the school. They can't argue with that.

Dear God that is the last thing you want to do, my mother is an educational psychologist, my brothers and I would knock the crap out of each other on a daily basis.

Sometimes children do bad things and they don't know why it is wrong. Tell them what they did was wrong and why it is not acceptable, taking the Wii off them for a fortnight is going to do nothing.

Very sorry to hear of your trouble.

So, not malicious, just stupid (could happen to any of us). If he's already suitably mortified at the consequences, the only punishment would be some kind of compensation to the other kid. What's important is somehow to get through to him how serious it all is.

If he's a clear and present danger, could he be sectioned?

Failing that, try exorcism... it's a great source of pea-soup. Sadly, none of my three standard solutions apply.

Is it normally difficult to get an EP to review a child?

We had an EP review our daughter at school a couple of weeks ago, he wasn't even asked to come in....
The school had contacted the early years co-ordinator asking for some information, the co-ordinator raised it in her weekly meeting and the EP responded with "I'm in that area in a few weeks, I'll pop in and do a full review".
Does this mean we have found a good school then?

Proabably - the standards vary a lot from area to area.

Brillo, I've seen both sides of the coin. My oldest was pinned against a wall by 13 twunts he didnt even know and suffered terribly all his highschool years; couldn't wait to leave school, taking me at my word that things got better once you were out of compulsory schooling and could choose your own path.

A few weeks ago, I had to sign a form to acknowledge my son's poor behaviour after a Polish kid from school was hospitalised by my son (more of a lucky blow than a full 12 rounds). This kid had been the frontman for a small 'evolving' Polish gang. There is now no gang at that school since the leader was shown to be lacking in leadership qualities . I did not punish my son: he was shocked himself and feared retaliation, but not a single incident since. I'm not proud of what he did, but I understand why he did it.

As for those who keep pointing fingers, it is NOT all the parents' fault, and it's not the schools' fault either. Each and every situation has to be taken on its own merits. Each and every child can have the same amount of nurture, but their nature means that they turn into very different animals.
Oh, I’m sorry….I seem to be lost. I was looking for the sane side of town. I’d ask you for directions, but I have a feeling you’ve never been there and I’d be wasting my time.
