You know these people that could not do technology so tried to go to the business side but never get anywhere as they are considered techies, they just float about creating meaningless word documents and are always heading off to meaningless meetings where they just talk tulip. The folk I know are in that category.

I recognise so many with that description.

When not in meetings, the can usually be found trying to destroy the reputations of anyone they think is a threat to themselves - unless they're riding on their efforts - 'cos they're "managing" the workload

When I look back, this is one of the reasons which justified the decision for me to go contracting.

I have this theory that about 25% of people that have been taken on by the banks to work at the technology coal face just cannot do the job. It is one thing passing a few java exams at Uni but that does not mean they can cut it on a 100,000 line hacked to shreds J2EE app. I have really started to notice that most big banks have a reject team where they just shuffle the spuds off to to keep them out the way, give them some low level work but tell them they are doing a great job and how important it is just so they never ask to get out.

Unlikely, not entirely impossible that they will up the rates stupidly to make a profit, but I'd say that the odds were hugely against that.
