I suppose it's cheaper than buying one of those Citroens that vibrates the drivers seat when straying from lanes. Hmm perhaps that explains the lady I was following the other day...

          It depends on how the invite is worded - if it's from the parents you should reply to the parents. If it's from the couple, then you should reply to the couple. I believe the formal forms are;

          Mr. Sock Puppet
          accepts with pleasure
          the kind invitation of
          Mr. and Mrs. Smith
to the wedding reception of their daughter
          Helen
          and
          Mr. John Matthew Jones
          on Saturday, 23rd March
          at 3:00 pm

It seems 100% clear to me:

            1. It says RSVP. That means Répondez S'il Vous Plaît, so it would be rude not to reply.
            2. A reply would naturally go to the person who sent the invitation.

            All perfectly logical.

PS can anyone tell me why they say "invite" for "invitation"?

As said, if you want to go send a card, if you do not want to go text his fiancé and ask if she wants a last minute one before the big day. They should get the message.

Traditionally it should come from/RSVP to the bride's parents.

Indeed: it should normally come from the bride's parents, inviting one to the wedding of their daughter to X; and therefore the reply should go to them, who sent the invitation.

But IMHO the basic principle is that if someone asks for a reply, then you reply to them (unless of course it says "RSVP to ..."). If the invitation doesn't come from the bride's parents, there may be a reason for that.
