    I usually recommend the Rathbone to foreign friends.
    Not as well known as the big ones, but fulfils all your criteria and great location. Reasonable rates as well.

      I don't fancy the Ritz. And we're only staying one night, so additional services aren't interesting.
      Intercontinental and Crowne Plaza should both be alright. They are more business hotels though so depends on what you are looking for.

          Not as good these days - the rates are reasonable for a reason. I stayed there once and found some dirty underwear behind the bed awning.
