I have worked my way up to senior SAP PM from humble Informix programmer by way of systems admin, Z80 & C++ programming, infrasrtructure delivery and management etc...
Plenty of courses but not one of them can replace the experience of a solid background in the trenches paying your dues.
Funny thing is was just talking with another contractor about how there seem to be virtually no official "Admin" staff anymore compared to 10 years ago…you have just explained why, they call themselves something different now

Funny thing is - When they were "Admin" we respected them and treated them with curtesy because they did worthwhile stuff and made life easier for us.......
Now they have "poncy" titles and don't actually DO the Admin stuff anymore - so we treat them... well How they deserve I guess!!!
