I suspect a lot of the people who wanted smoking banned in pubs would be equally happy to see the pubs close.
    because.
drinking is bad for you and has health and social consequences so if we cant have prohibition lets close the pubs and tax home drinking till the pips squeak and stop people who drink from getting health services and lets have a tax on chocolate as well because all those fatties are a constant drain on resources, after all it worked in Scotland just look at the increased number of pub goers oh sorry the stats were all manipulated and rigged oh well we can always say sorry later

I love the way guru totally accepts computer models saying the world will be destroyed in a few short years by man-made CO2 emissions without a shred of evidence (indeed the climate is cooling now), but needs "hard proof" that passively breathing in smoke can cause cancer.

Gonzo, way too sensible, but the anti smoking lobby want the right to go wherever smokers go and tut disapprovingly until the smokers STOP.
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

you are ignoring the fact that Foxy modelled this, so experiments and hard facts are not required. I refer you to his model 'Smokeopoly' the rules of which were drawn up on the back of a fag packet

There are plenty of non-smoking pubs for them to visit but they aren’t visiting them. That’s why 39 pubs a week in Britain and about 7 pubs a week in Holland are closing.

How long before denying that smoking is harmful becomes a psycholigical disorder?

I think it is all down to the way that the legislation was marketed in the UK. It was put through as legislation to "protect the health of workers" which meant that smoking could not then be allowed in any work-place.

In other countries the legislation had a slightly different raison d'etre, making exceptions allowable.

                      I started a 10-20 cigs a week habit at 16, and stopped at 18.

Last time I was in the UK, I went to the pub as often as I could because a) I miss decent beer and b) the pubs are smoke free.

Not that I agree with the smoking ban... What should have been done was to outlaw smoking at the bar to protect the bar staff (actually was this already the case before the ban came into force?), and to force provision no-smoking areas in pubs/establishments over a certain size. Such areas accessible to the bar without running a gauntlet of second hand smoke.

But that wouldn't please the anti-smoking zealots.
