    Bird Flu

I have not seen any birds in my office for a while - could this be an early sign?

    Doggy Math?

The UN estimate is 150 million deaths max worldwide from bird flu

The worlds population is about 6.5 billion?

    http://www.census.gov/ipc/www/popclockworld.html

Does this suggest a 2.5% maximum chance of dying from bird flu?

or have I got a few zeros in the wrong place?

The above might be simplistic, as age, demographics, state of health etc play a role.

Wont get me! I don't get flue. In fact, I do not believe I have ever had flue in my life. Either I am the antichrist or, more probably, flue does not exist. It's just an excuse for people to take time off work. Millions dying in 1918 indeed! I bet those lazy bastards never died at all, I expect most are at home right now, swigging a beer and watching the football.

If more than several thousand people get bird flu anywhere in the world, we'll know it's on its way..

If it's anywhere as bad as it might be, I plan to stockpile tinned food and water etc to last several weeks, because transport might be disrupted by quarantines and even loads of people ill or dying, and in those circumstances the utility supplies couldn't be relied on.

Also I may toddle down to my GP with "flu symptoms" and get a prescription for Relenza or Tamiflu - Probably won't help much, but might literally make the difference between life and death.

Don't forget the Kleenex - even if there's no bird flu, they might come in handy for those mono-handed adventures in website wonder-porno land.

There was another thread asking how to survive the recession. Well, if we are all going to die of bird flu (which is meant to be identical to the early fatal Spanish flu), then buying shares in the makers of Kleenex would be a very good idea. Unless of course, you die.

                    Bloke Flu

Don't know about Bird Flu but I've got Bloke Flu at the moment! You'll be pleased to know I hauled my sorry arse into the office today to make sure I didn't lose a days takings, and probably gave it to a good number of the Permies in the process.

Should be quiet in the office tomorrow!
