    The state within the state

I'm surprised this hasn't been done already fellow Torygraph readers.

I believe politics 101 is that you must not allow the creation of an alternate state within the state as this leads to dissolution.

I have for some time thought that New Labours most heinous piece of crapulence, and they are many, is that they have encouraged religious schools (Islamic) as it saves them having to do their job.
As any fool know, children don't discriminate. So educate the kids together and they will grow to know and accept, respect each other and their cultures.

    Now read this:

Music, chess and cricket are just three things banned in some Muslim schools in the UK. Others are drama, dance, sport, Shakespeare, and, in some cases, any aspect of Western culture whatever. According to the management committee of London's Madani Secondary Girls' School, this is because "our children are exposed to a culture that is in opposition with almost everything Islam stands for". The response to this sense of danger is often to forbid outright any kind of relationship with non-Muslims: "Allah has warned us in the Koran, do not befriend the kuffaar. The Jews and Christians will never be content with you until you follow their way," says Riyadhul Haq, a teacher in Kidderminster.

Good luck with fixing that problem.

I alwys have a problem with logical inconsistency. Are we a multicultural society or not? If my children have to mix with people from other cultures, surely so do they?

There was some interview on R4 this morning about polygamy and religious marriages. They rolled out a couple of spokespeople from muslim organisations and I could see where the interview was headed so I switched it off.

Expat, you're right. We are either multicultural or we're not, we either integrate or we don't. What we seem to be doing is pandering to the minorities.
          Older and ...well, just older!!

I heard that, and actually the drift from the muslim spokesmen was that although polygamy was allowed, it was subject to such strong restrictions in terms of fairness (of the man to his wives) and such caveats in the Koran about its only being suitable when really needed, that the effect was that it was deliberately intended to be rare, not the norm; and most muslim men should not imagine doing it.

Yup, because it is the minorities that win the marginal seats in an election, and thus national power for HMG.

Or fix the quote, how lazy.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

David Cameron is no Idi Amin, what's he going to do about it?

I thought one of them said the Koran only allows it if your first wife can't have any more children. Which made me think of those Saudi prince's with dozens of wives, and how unlucky they must have been.
