Despite all that the UK is still the best country in the world to live in

So what's good about it, to live in?

Sparkling Spring morning. Nice country pub at lunchtime with log fire but you brave the outside bench with your sweater still on, because you're thinking of the summer to come.

Russet-leaved Autumn evening. Nice country pub with log fire and you go inside to sit by it because you can feel the chill and the smell of the leaves makes you think of the smell of the log fire, and the smell of the log fire makes you think of the smell of chestnuts.

Yes I see the picture you're painting - and it's a nice one, but I can honestly say I've experienced the same or better in Northern Italy (ok an hotel / cafe bar not a pub) but otherwise the same - and in Switzerland, Germany and many other places.

Difference is, in the UK, the idyll is likely to be spoiled by a huge gang of Waynes and Traceys and their bovine parents (and possibly Grand Parents) and their simian-looking children all turning up for a meal and a piss up.

I agree there. I'm afraid that the best parts of Britain are the parts with fewer people in them.

Judging by the amount of foreigners from Australia to Russia to Afghanistan coming here then it is clearly the greatest country on the planet inspite of its ruling classes
