Quite - making use of the available road space reduces queues and congestion. I go to the front, at a careful speed so anyone in the queue can pull out with me ramming them, and then sit patiently until I can get in. It seems that the people who won't let you in are in a minority. Conversely, when I'm in the queue, I always let people in, in zip like fashion. What's the point in making it difficult, perhaps causing a crash, and an even longer queue, just for the sake of a few feet of tarmac?

A few times where the motorway goes from 3 to 1 lane, you've got lemmings queued nose to tail in the left-hand lane, and the other lanes totally empty. It's got nothing to do with lane-discipline or the lack of it. Use the empty lanes!
Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!

I tend to get in the lane early so that I don't miss my exit. I can't see the point of trying to barge in at the last minute, possibly causing a crash and risk missing the junction.

In cases where 2 lanes merge into 1 I'll usually go to the end of it. I can't see the point of everybody sitting in 2 lanes of stationary traffic when there is still half a mile of unused 3rd lane next to them.
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

      I preferred version 1!

You're the cause of the two lanes of stationary traffic!

It's BECAUSE people barge to the front of the queue by using the third lane that the other two lanes are stationary! In any other scenario, this would just be pushing in! Would you do it in a shop or when you're waiting to buy a ticket somewhere? Then why do it in a car? I see the same thing everyday and am almost at the point of "if you can't beat them, join them".

Dozens of cars every morning taking the wrong lane at a roundabout and smugly barging in at the last second. They're all thinking "gosh, aren't we clever, why are these numpties waiting in a queue", and we're all thinking you're a prize nugget!!!

        There endeth the rant.

I encounter this every day and I always pull in at the last minute, I’m not being selfish or dangerous I am freeing up the road space. The junction slip road has 2 lanes so why not use them? The ‘slow’ lane merges with the junction over a 300 yard stretch so there’s plenty of room for people to nip in and take advantage of the 2nd lane of the slip road.

IMO this is preferable to having a few miles of stationary traffic on the motorway just waiting to be shunted by a prostitute murdering Belgium lorry driver, not enough people do it to make a difference though.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

Morning Sourpuss !! I always wait for the last moment because normally there is a gap ahead, and if I don't do it somebody else surely will. Hence, my journey times are somewhat shorter than yours.

I imagine you go past your exit, and reverse back
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

All well and good but what happens when you pull in at the last minute to find both lanes full of traffic and noone prepared to let you in. I've seen this happen and the culprits sat waiting in the middle lane thus causing a serious hazzard. By all means pull in later if you can see, but IMHO the majority of drivers can't see and are risking their and other peoples lives.

This is sounding like PistonHeads here. I expect the talk will change to fog lights soon.

I might go over there and rant about poor CVs and servile Indian developers.
