I try to write in perfect English in text messages, through Messenger, and especially on forums. Lack of capitalisation and misuse of punctuation infuriates the hell out of me.

I can partially understand the desire to abbreviate words in text messages, especially when you're trying to confine a message within 160 characters (or whatever the size limit is) in order to avoid the text being split into multiple messages. Personally, I'd prefer to send a longer text message than to sound like an illiterate.

A few weeks ago I happened to converse with my old secondary school English teacher via Facebook. I wrote to him in normal English just as I am typing this right now; he wrote back to me entirely in text speak. I thought he was just taking the piѕѕ at first, but he wasn't. Fortunately he quit teaching long ago.

You've come right out the other side of the forest of irony and ended up in the desert of wrong.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

since you ask, they're my initials and my old sport number

i just thought it was a funny parallel being drawn between people calling typing in a form of short hand, moron's, when they themselves post on an internet forum with made up username's

I feel like i've woken an angry bear from hibernation!

                    Your 'old sport number'?

Bit of an old sport are you then?
