I have different writing styles - depending on the target audience.
I write a lot more formally when I'm writing a document or an email about work, but when I'm writing to a friend or posting on a forum It's much more casual.

    I'm sure everyone does that.
I'm sorry, but I'll make no apologies for this

I'm enjoying being taught a lesson by people called Chugnut and Bogeyman by the way!

      LOL TTFN!
I can't say I enjoy bantering with someone who has so little humour and such paucity of wit and imagination that they call themselves 'jmo21'.

21 being your age, I presume.

F* it - I'm off down the boozer.

      LOL to you too.

You've come right out the other side of the forest of irony and ended up in the desert of wrong.

We've got efficient snow clearing in my town...

I was in Russia for the first two weeks of the year - loads of fantastic snow, but no mountains (well, not where I was). And I don't do cross-country, can't see the point.

After that I've been working pretty much non-stop. Will be going to Feldberg Saturday. Then the following week, we'll be in Valais.

So by March should be up to 9 days. Not as good as last year, which had far less snow. Last year was 20+ days.

Quick ad-hominem argument - perhaps 21 is his IQ.
Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!

You can really do this? I could never change my entire writing style just based upon the target environment. In fact, it wouldn't even occur to me.
I do. I have different writing styles depending on the person who will be reading the message.

Infact, going a stage futher, I have different talking styles, mannerisms and postures depending on my target audience.

If a Client is of a different social background and speaks more "plainly", then I'll adopt a mirrored approach. I cannot use my "la-di-da" voice with some sections of the community no more than I can use my "plain" voice with others.

          It's all about mirroring.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

since you ask, they're my initials and my old sport number

i just thought it was a funny parallel being drawn between people calling typing in a form of short hand, moron's, when they themselves post on an internet forum with made up username's

I feel like i've woken an angry bear from hibernation!

What is that little tick just before the "S"s actually for?

If you don't know, why are you using it?

you could say the same with slang words/expressions.

Sure. I should have been more specific. It was the dropping of punctuation and capital letters I meant.

I use these regardless of text, forum, or formal document. I would have to make a conscious effort not to use them.

There are no angry people on here. We're IT geeks who are mild and harmless.

Forum postings are merely gorilla-chest posturings, so the meek and the mild can feel important.

If it soothes the brow of some, then I say, why the heck not ?

Better to keep an eye on them here than have them loose on the streets scaring old ladies with bits of C++.
