Anyone signed on the dole while benched?

    The individual is unemployed. They should make a claim against their NI contributions. Just like you would with any other insurance. Would you not claim on your car insurance even though you had paid the premium?

    The individual should have signed on a while ago and declared their savings, that way their NI contributions would have been paid, but obviously no cash until their savings have dropped.

      If you can pay your salary, pay it. You don't need benefits. If you run the company dry because you can't get work, go and ask the job centre people. They'll give you facts rather than the shit spouted by some of you twats.

        The unemployed person can claim CONTRIBUTIONS-BASED JSA if he has paid at least one year of NI class A contributions in the past 3 years, regardless of savings. He only gets this for six months.

                Well, if you get it from the horses mouth they told me that I could not claim because I had not paid 5 years NI in the past 5 years. I then did my own research which proved the lady that I spoke to totally wrong. I get the feeling that it is their policy to mislead and discourage claimants.

                  My 2 peneth... You can claim jobseekers but only if you prove that you are available and actively seeking work and that's any work!

                  If you are and you do not intend to close the Company you will next need to prove that you are absent from work with good cause i.e. by declaring that there is no work available in the Company and no work in the pipleine. You will next need to prove that the Company is financially unable to pay you; you will probably be asked to provide the current Company Bank statements plus a profit & loss account for the last 3-6 months, showing the current financial situation of the Company. If there are funds available in the Company you will be asked why the Company is not paying you.

                  JSA isn't means tested based on saving (as income support is), but you become inelligible if they can prove you have available income.

                  IMHO we are discussing how to commit fraud here, as the OP is just between contracts and has not run out of income.
