Thanks for your replies!!! I now feel a lot happier.
I thought IR35 maybe on the way.

How long did it take for your banks to put together the interest certificates?

    Many thanks

Just send them the information - promptly - but only what they have asked for. Don't give them a list of all transactions through the accounts, i.e. if they just want the account names & interest income certificate then that is all they need.

Don't give them more than they ask for as it will only give them an excuse to create more work for themselves.

Can't you just go through all your old bank statements and tot up the interest payments?, so no need for a certificate?

I thought many banks automatically deducted tax from your interest? I'm sure I had an account once that did something along this line.

They do, at 20% !!! However, if you have gone over the 20% band then you need to pay tax at the higher rate.

They have now asked me for a list of all bank accounts that i held during this period. They have also asked for certificates confirming the interest received during this period.

Is this something to be worried about? The letter states that they hold information which suggest I should have paid tax. Can the IR see what I have in my bank account?

Has anyone else experienced something similar to this before and what was the outcome.
