before you ask, I have googled it, and read some reviews, both +ve and -ve. I thought my learned friends of cuk might be able to offer some real advice.

Have you bought a car from one? If so, were you happy with it?

Considering carting myself off to cargiant at the weekend and wondering whether or not to bother.

dont, they often sell non UK spec cars or ex fleet. Having said that Trade sales in Slough isn't bad for cheap superminis

Very good for seeing a wide selection of cars all in the same place and all undercover in the warm and dry.

Otherwise don't bother.

They are entirely geared to credit purchases, the cars are over priced and the interest rates are extortionate.

You are better off going for the one careful owner, private sale type I would say.

Are these recommendations based on the quality of the car? I don't need the credit, so will be buying outright; are the cars that bad VFM? they look quite reasonable on the site, comparing with others on autotrader....

As always it depends what you are looking for. I have never seen anything at a car supermarket I couldn't get in better condition and cheaper elsewhere ever

Even without the credit the cars are expensive. Between £500-£1000 over other local trade prices when we were looking. Best bet is a local dealership selling on trade-in's. You'll get a better deal, better service and better support if anything goes wrong. Once you exclude all the car's you know you don't want then the supermarkets don't actually have much more choice than you average dealer.

The car auctions have some very cheap cars at the moment. Motorbility sell their cars via Ebay, these cars are often very low mileage, and ones that don't sell go to BCA for even less money.

I have once as they advertised the car I have now on Auto Trader with what was obviously the wrong pricetag on the advert, fortunately the branch was in easy reach so I printed out the ad wandered in and caught them firmly over a barrel.
They weren't at all happy at having to sell me the car at well over £3k less than they had on the screen but they did eventually.

Unless you can catch them out their screen prices are absurdly high as they tend to specialise in the poor credit market with weekly payments.

I'm quite happy with the car, their service was lousy, but that was irrelevant once I had driven away as obviously I have no reason to ever go back.
