Yes, very fly, The first thing my manager said was "well RBS & HBOS are all getting 15% drops as well"

I am happy to only take 6 months a year just now as my savings are very healthy and I don't have kids yet.

I figured than if I took it then I would struggle to get it back up again, all the Edinburgh financials would know if I worked for the same company over this period then I took the drop. Might as well leave then come back when the rates rise.

I'm trying to say that the label is only relevant to those who care about it.
Quite often, the only person who cares about it is the contractor himself.
Put it this way, you start afresh with each new contract.

          If I may....

You're turning down the best paying contract you have on offer................
...............and replacing it with being proud on the bench - living off your savings?

nice going.... Hope you change your mind quickly.

Consider this - If you have a contract - you will always be more valualble to an agent if you jump ship - you leave a hole for the agent to fill.

Naaah - be proud on the bench, yes?

Not in my field you don't.

The banks have monthly user-group meetings. I know almost every consultant working in most of the banks across Europe on this particular package.

Word would soon get around that I'd walked off a job without completing.

The more good rep you get, the less you have to deal with agents...

              Think yourself lucky.

My client offered all contractors the option of a 100% cut.

I'd have snapped their hand off if they'd have offered -15.

Usually, but not always. If you've ever walked on a contract you may miss out on new contract work from former clients, managers, colleagues. Your name, to some, will be mud. Agents of course have memories like goldfish, and will be calling you within a month

OTOH if you walked out during a company wide rate-cut, attitudes to you may be quite different. You will be remembered as someone who was good enough to get a new contract in a downturn. You may even be remembered as someone with principles.

so how do you put 300 pound worth of costs through per day?

Just not true to those that are important - all it takes is an agent who likes placing you. It could be because you consistantly refer new gigs his way.
If takes a lot of "little people" to make important people think you are mud. In truth, the higher you go, there are always people who are angered by you - just because you are more successful than them (perhaps unjustifiable in their mind).

Doubt it - you will be remembered as the rat that left the sinking ship.
The one that stays will get the renewal - if it does happen.

This is the whole fallacy of the "honour" thing. People who don't have such high morals usually despise those who do - because they can't feel they can manipulate them.

I am turning down an offer that is below my minimum rate, |I also have a decent Plan B that is interesting other parties at this point in time.
