I can see your point and it is probably correct. However had the Tories been in power they would not have embarked on the Gordon Brown spending binge that will leave a legacy of debt for future generations to pay.

The reality is that it is Labour who have once again screwed up the economy and not the Tories, and once again it will probably be the Tories that will have to clear up the mess again.

Equities. Inflation and low interest rates will wipe out savings, so people will flock to shares, however dodgy or volatile.

As an indedpendant minded individual (I've voted both Tory, Labour and Liberal) or undecided no one seems better than the other, but I am leaning more towards Tory at the moment (personal gain - end of IR 35??).

As a general question how big is the national debt, in proportion to GDP and how does this compare to previous governments? I think I read somewhere that in percentage terms we are no worse off than earlier recessions. I also read that NL exclude a lot from the national debt figures.

Anybody have proof of this or are we all speculating and should be starting to short sell everything - now its allowed again!

Is the US really ‘less state oriented’?

Look how many people in the US are employed directly or indirectly by the military; from infantrymen in Iraq right through to aircraft mechanics in US factories and cleaners at Halliburton, millions of Americans are actually dependent on state defense budgets, and therefore the massive fiscal deficit for their jobs.

Is the US military that much bigger as a % of population or GDP than the UK... there are a LOT more people in the US than the UK.
