Please dont bring logic into this. There are millions of proles out there who think GB is the man for a crisis. DC will be portrayed as giving people a tough ride in the short term (which is true). The great unwashed can't see very far.

He can promise the earth as he's in opposition currently.

GB could not even deliver a vote on the Lisbon Treaty, and that was in the manifesto !!!

A tax break on the tax you pay on interest, when all the banks are paying derisory rates on savings anyway.

So, when you are getting 0% interest on your savings, the opposition is suggesting that the way to stimulate the economy is to offer to remove the tax that you pay on it.

          Genius.

Wrong !! By the time the Tories get in, inflation will be rising and so will interest rates.

I'm not saying your wrong, but the government's job isn't to reward those who have saved, it's to try and protect the average idiot from the mess they got themselves into. Any tax cuts should be given to those who NEED them, not those who DESERVE them (life isn't fair).

Surely the Government's job is to reflect the democratic will of the majority who voted them in to power ?

Considering that the majority possess an average IQ, it would follow that we are being governed by the politics of mediocrity (at best !)
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Hence encouraging the same behaviour that got us into this mess? I'm all for helping people out of a rut, but government should not continue to punish the financially sensible act of saving by taxing the interest. Saving would seem destructive when the economy needs a boost in the short term; really what businesses need now is for people to start spending. But in the long run, savings have huge benefits; they stock the banks with money that they can lend (I'll avoid a rant here) and they provide consumers with increased spending power in the future and the ability to ride out financial shocks.
