Funny how they want to sell the shelves but the Xbox's & PS3's along with the entire games catalogue remains at normal price.

When I went in on Sunday I was one of many wondering around mumbling "what sale?"

Wii games were 30% off today, but that makes them only slightly cheaper than the online price

I haven't set foot in Woolworths for at least 10 years. I guess I never will again.

Fair point.

However in the scheme of laissez-faire economics clearing out the retail 'deadwood' will speed potential recovery. Woolworths and their like needed to go, it sapped the profits of the more capable businesses.

Afraid So. Was reading in the paper today that the pound shop types are buying leases off woolworths (Wilkinsons & Pound Land were mentioned!); also Iceland and Lidl. Good Times article here.

Also went in a Woolies today - thought I might just see what was going on and say good bye! All F&F's for sale; including the seats from the cafe at £20 a pop

Rumour has it though, that our local Woolies may become a H&M; so not all bad!

I had great delight in pointing this out in Halifax today; but that is a seperate rant. Halifax are tulipe.

Loads of bare shelves, and big boards as you went in advertising "all furniture and fittings for sale". We joked about whether that includes the tills and the tannoy system... but the thing is it probably does.

After getting used to seeing shops with "closing down" signs that never seem to close, it was very interesting to actually see a big store really desperate to sell everything on (and including) the shelves.

One of my local DIY superstores did exactly the same thing in March. Expect much more next year. It always seems to happen under you know who.

Makes me wonder what will happen to the stores. There's a Woolies on nearly every high street in the UK. What will become of them. Giant 'Pound Shops'?
