We’re happy with that option because we have similar legal rights as married couples. I’m not really bothered whether the civil union was invented for gay people; it’s useful for us so we use the option.Comment

Taking it to its logical conclusion, it is a genetic variation that is self-limiting and will be naturally de-selected.
Give it another millenia or so of natural selection and there wont be any gay people. We're still evolving.
Darwin pondered homosexuality a lot, and reckoned it might be a side effect visited on sons of more fertile women. In other words, women with more female hormones swilling around would have more offspring, but with a higher chance of homosexual offspring. Sounds plausible, and I think recent studies have lent support to that idea.
Also, in primitive societies of the past, homosexuality may well have had a role in keeping horny teenagers occupied with each other instead of risking life and limb competing with larger adult males for females, and bonding adult warriors etc. (Alexander the Great and half his army were as gay as coots don't forget!)Work in the public sector? Beyond the legal rights afforded by civil union, my civil union means to me and Mrs Tester exactly what we want it to mean. As does our lack of a relationship with a god we don’t believe exists.
Nobody's equating your marriage to anything else. Your marriage is for you and Mrs deano, and you can equate it with anything you like. And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014Comment
