This government does have a history of bailing out (or attempting to by dropping £Ms of taxpayers money into) ailing car companies....Originally posted by original PM View PostNooo we have to bail it out otherwise there will be loads more unemployed scousers on the street and we all know that will mean a rise in crime."Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny. So Tata bought this in June for £1.7b and now are looking for a £1b handout from the govt. Why not simply buy the whole thing off them for £1bln.Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.
I preferred version 1!Comment

I did ponder this possibility in June, but they were profitable then.Originally posted by TonyEnglish View PostSo Tata bought this in June for £1.7b and now are looking for a £1b handout from the govt. Well, that's an idea. No bailout, we'll take it off your hands if you want.Originally posted by TonyEnglish View PostSo Tata bought this in June for £1.7b and now are looking for a £1b handout from the govt. Why not simply buy the whole thing off them for £1bln.Comment

That's exactly what we need - another millstone round the taxpayer's neck....Originally posted by expat View PostWell, that's an idea. They did look at setting up an assembly operation in Russia, shipping out the cars in kit form from the UK.Originally posted by swamp View PostThey're hardly going to ship production out of the UK to a cheaper cost base...Where are we going? And what’s with this hand basket?Comment

But that was only as part of a big tax fiddle to avoid import tax for vehicles sold in Russia. That and taking more unused Ford factories off Ford's hands. But the rusky's changed their mind at the last minute!Comment

What’s the point in pumping money into a failing business, where would the money go? They certainly aren’t going to keep production going just to fill up airfields with cars that no-one wants, all those knob ends on the radio saying we need to save British jobs are talking nonsense.
I’d sooner split £1billion amongst the 15,000 workers than let the bean counters swindle it away, I’m not saying give it to them directly but with £65,000 per head I’m sure a bright spark somewhere can think of a far more viable business.Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave JohnsonComment
