Lord Mandelson, the Business Secretary, is supportive of Jaguar's case and is said to have been in direct contact with Ratan Tata, the Indian billionaire whose Tata group owns Jaguar.
Am I missing something here? Or has the Mash got it right:

But Mr Mandelson stressed the government could not simply write a blank cheque for businesses that did not employ large numbers of Labour voters in key marginal seats.
    Older and ...well, just older!!

Now, I do have a slight vested interest here!

But, I was thinking this morning that perhaps JLR should have put some money aside during the good times over the past few years. Then I remember that a certain large American auto-maker was at the helm and has an insatiable appetite for cash. I hope they do go to the wall.

So, go easy on the Indians - they haven't been around for long enough to stamp their mark!

But they bought it for a song because Ford needed the $$$

They bought it when they knew the market was heading down the drain.

Now they want us to help them out!

I wonder how much there was to put aside though - any profit made by Land Rover was just offset against the losses accrued by Jaguar (and Volvo on the last Ford financial statement if I recall correctly).
Where are we going? And what’s with this hand basket?

Jungle Telegraph reports there may be some form of missive from upon high at 2 o'clock.

Jungle Telegraph has been wrong in the past. However, as the FSA would say, past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results!

What's more interesting is that its almost assured that the plants will move into eastern europe or india at some point.

This could just be a propoganda ploy so Tata can remove himself from commitments to keep the plants here in the short term. Or GB on a "The American's couldn't do it but I can" self grandising moment.

Good to see some highly accurate scare mongering from the BBC here.

Only surprise is that its not written by Peston.
