Rather than use jammers, they were suggesting lining the walls with some kind of wire mesh that would block the signal.

There is something on the BBC News website about cinemas and theatres considering using it, from some time back.

Mobile calls on a plane could end up causing a fight, at least on a train you can always move away but you cannot do that on most flights. Imagine a 4 hour flight between 2 folk using phones for the duration, some people would end up throwing punches.

An ideal journey would be sitting next to someone that has annexed both armrests, uses a mobile phone and sprays himself with perfume while flicking boogers and expelling wind at fellow passengers. He could also drone on about how people could die if we don't bend to his every inconsiderate whim. The ideal part would be the whole carriage/plane rising up, dragging him from his seat and turning him into a pulp.

Seen a bit of boxing on a plane once coming in to land at Paris, two frogs starting going at each other because one was pissed off at the others behaviour over the course of a 12 hour flight. As I was leaving the plane about a dozen police were running on. There is just no way they can add mobiles into the mix and not expect aggro.

A co-pilot was in the news a week or so ago for going nuts at the controls. He was dragged away from the controls and locked in a loony bin.

If he was, someone probably told him the cost of the calls - likely to be 2-£3 per min. The cost should prevent mobile on planes becoming a nuisance like they can be in trains and restaurants
