Are you a single male?
If yes then you will have no access to public sector housing.
If you own a motor vehicle then you will be expected to live in that and no further help will be provided. If not they will provide you with a list of local letting agents. That is the total of the help that you will get.
In the highly unlikely event that you find a landlord that will take a single person that is unemployed as a Tennant you will be restricted in the amount of housing benefit you can claim. This will be in the region of £60 pw in shared accommodation for the under 25's.
All of these 'benefits' only kick in once you have burn through all assets and funds you have. In the meantime you are on your own.
Given the 'help' that is available to people who fall on hard time; it makes you proud to pay all those taxes when times were good.
In the recession of the early 90's I got shafted but was lucky in not having to go through all that. However, I knew two of two guys who killed themselves over it. It was a result of those times that I took the attitude that I will put myself in a position where I didn't do the T-word, because it was theft as I got nothing for the money extorted from me.How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.
