These days if you are HIV + you can expect to live a normal life span with the right treatment, you can even have you sperm washed if you want to have kids and not pass HIV to your partner, I did a lot of research at weekend

Question more relates to other peoples reactions DP reaction was what I was dreading.
I'm sure there's lots of help available to your mate via the appropriate organisations as he's not the first person to have these worries. I would have thought his GP would be able to point him in the right direction to get enough information to make balanced decisions for himself.

If it was me. I'd keep schtum. I wouldn't want to know if someone I was working with was HIV either.

...my quagmire of greed....my cesspit of laziness and unfairness....all I am doing is sticking two fingers up at nurses, doctors and other hard working employed professionals...

I thought it would be good to ask a wide cross section of people I thought may be people could be mature enough on a certain serious topics.

Sometimes the more serious the topic, the more outrageous the replies get.

Oh don't be like that, it was just a joke.

FFS, I'd be more worried by your humour bypass than HIV.

This is "General". I don't think there's ever been a "Life & Death (Literally)" forum on CUK.

Ignore DP, he's one of Troll's sockpuppets.

I'm not sure what legal or contractual requirements there might be for him to inform his employers, but it could be the sensible thing to do - if, for example, he was injured and unconscious, a first-aider at work would appreciate knowing that they should take the necessary precautions. If informed, his employers would have a duty to treat the matter as strictly confidential (although we all know how well that works in the average office).

Unfortunately there is still a lot of ignorance surrounding the condition (hi DP), although I don't think the kind of hysterical reactions commonly experienced twenty years or so ago are so likely nowadays. If he does choose to disclose his condition to others, he ought to prepare himself to be able to dispel the myths and prejudices he will inevitably encounter.

There will probably always be a few who refuse to listen to reason, though. He may have to accept that some of those he has previously looked on as friends prefer to cling to their ignorance rather than understand and come to terms with his misfortune, and offer him the love and support he will now need.
