"She said opposition plans for tax support for married couples sent a message that the Conservatives "still believe a childless, dual-income, but married couple is more deserving of a financial pat on the head than those struggling, as I once was, to keep their families afloat in difficult times."

And from Wiki (I know, I know):
"Unemployed and living on state benefits, Rowling completed her first novel in many cafés, especially Nicolson's Café, whenever she could get Jessica to fall asleep" - which is, I think, correct.

So, she was on benefits, writing, and so not seeking work - struggling? Struggling? She had skills that had secured her employment before (With a year of study in Paris, Rowling moved to London to work as a researcher and bilingual secretary for Amnesty International).

Hmmm... a f-cker's trick , I say, and all at others' expense. How very easy for any doley grunt to pipe-up with, "I'm working on my book/sculpting/etc." when asked how their job hunting is progressing.

Did she give any money to Amnesty International? That would certainly be a better donation than giving to Brown Clown (tm).

Did she ever pay back those benefits?

You want a Tablet PC then. Preferably splash proof.
Where are we going? And what’s with this hand basket?

I prefer proper book. Only read news/documentation online.

Same here to be honest. A neighbour of mine reads a book while he takes he dog out for a walk.

She can support anyone she wants. Apparently she is concerned about children and all that - if so why she gives money to political party that will 99% lose next election (and thus be unable to fulfil any promises they gave her) instread of giving it to party that can win or just giving to childrens charity that can start helping children right now, not some time in the future?

It's a political stunt - she supports personal "friend" Brown Clown.

She is more wealthy then Her Majesty, if she really supported children she could have given a lot more money very easily - just share some of the interest her bank account pays.
