How do they plan to scan peoples brains and transfer their subconscious to an id card?

I think they will moan like anything, but once it's done people will accept it. We're an apathetic lot.

Maybe we'll see photo booths replaced by combined photo, fingerprint, retina scan and DNA sample booths.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

I could envision sperm sample booths being popular
Confusion is a natural state of being

What worries me is that I have a certain amount of control of information about myself. I can control to an extent what I want people to know about me, from where I live to where I shop, to where I travel and what opinions I have. A central ID system strips away a lot of what I can control.

The old "nothing to hide" argument is fine, but you should understand that how others view and interpret information is not always objective, or as we would wish it to be interpreted.

                Yep, that sounds very secure

These things can only work under supervised conditions. At minimum you'd have to have possess some kind of secret too, such as a pin number.

After WW2 the Labour Government (1945 - 1950) wanted to keep ID documents, and it was the Chief Justice at the time, Lord Goddard, who ruled that they were being used beyond their intended purpose and tended to cause hostility to the police by in effect criminalizing everyone.

The Tory government, who by that time (1952) were back in office, went along with that and ID documents were duly abolished.

So what has changed since? Yes there are loads more foreigners and immigrants here these days; but they are (or will be) obliged to carry ID cards anyway.

From a selfish point of view, there could be loads of freelance work involved in setting up, the new NPfIT, could keep us going to retirement and probably still not deliver.

toot-toot, all aboard the id card gravy train
