I’m not as techie as I should be, but can someone explain how this is supposed to be implemented? I have my own e-mail server with its own MX records etc. How is my ISP supposed to record the email I get? Most e-mail is SPAM and gets filtered out. Is all of that supposed to be recorded too?
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

Each of the IP packets that your computer receives and sends has a record type field. These types are documented in the relevant RFCs. It's just a matter of capturing the relevant packets and rebuilding the messages.

So send only coded emails. Make the f###ers work for them
I consider the two who voted for "If you've got nothing to hide" beneath contempt unless it was a joke - and even then I have my doubts (you could have taken the Andy W option).
They should receive a one-way ticket to North Korea where they will find the regime fits with their authoritarian snooping ideals.
What I do for 90% of the time is nowt to do with anyone else, but especially not the government - they are supposed to work for me, not require me to explain myself to them.
This is not a left/right issue (although parties would like to pretend it is). When Micheal Howard wanted ID cards, Blair was against it, Now Labour want it, the Tories oppose it. It was always wrong and stupid. Mrs Thatcher talked about democracy a lot but opposed sanctions against the Aparthied regime in South Africa and was a huge fan of Chilean dicator Pinochet who tortured and killed people who opposed him and imposed a ridiculous ban on Sinn Fein politicians being broadcast live on tv or radio, so let's not kid ourselves that any one party will stand up for our freedoms.

Ah, I knew it was Thatchers fault. Stock answer of the loony left.
