Also, Georgia attacked Ossetia after attack from Ossetia.... read this blog from a fighter.... so Russia apparently DID instigate this war:

Err, South Ossetia is not Russia, it's part of Georgia (even Russia acknowledges that). So that just confirms that the civil war/conflict initially started without any intervention from the Russian military.

And yes I can believe that the Georgians only invaded after some provocation by the Ossetians. In fact it's quite likely. But how does it make the conflict a Russian invasion or land grab?

Ossetia is full of Russians..... Osseta = Russia.
You will see in the news very soon that the Russians are invading Georgia. They have manipulated this situation in order to takeover Georgia IMO. The West is doing nothing ang Georgia will fall to the Russians. That's a land-grab and so was Ossetia.

So if it's true, why does Russia not even recognize South Ossetia as an independent state, and treats it as part of Georgia?

It's propaganda. Russia have ethnically cleansed(expelled) Georgians from Ossetia since 1992... have you read my previous posts ? The Russians are in the majority in Ossetia and they have a Russian controlled state government. It is in their propaganda interests to say it is independent but clearly it is not. It is full of RUSSIANS and therefore under control of Russians !!! Try to see through the media propaganda. Do not believe all that you see and hear.
