Do you believe all the news reports ? Remember also that Russia is currently bombing Georgia. Nobody is in the right here and it is a war that Georgia cannot win. My view is that Russia could well be after Georgia once their provinces have been annexed, because Georgia has control of the oil pipelines which it appears the Russians are after.

Then the west would have to intervene, because Turkey etc could be next.

To equate American support of the democratic state of Georgia with Russian expansioniasm and ethnic cleansing is so naive and dangerous.

Erm I believe video footage which quite clearly showed artillery fire in Tskhinvali.

Indeed Russia is bombing Georgia but from what I've seen in the news (including Georgian), they're only bombing military objects and there haven't been any casualties yet, only a few injured. Meanwhile the Georgians started their attack with artillery and there have been hundreds of civilian deaths in Ossetia already.

As far as I know Georgia doesn't have anything that Russia wants. As I mentioned previously, my theory is that Russia is in it just for political support at home, and loyalty from the North Ossetians.

Excuse me for the audacity of questioning this, but how do you know that that artillery was Georgian and if it was could it not have been in response to Russian attacks, because presumably Russia is attacking Georgia via Ossetia ? It seems to me that there are a lot of dodgy assumptions going on here.

How do you know what the Georgians were aiming at?

Because it was shown on the day of the invasion, before the Russians responded with their military.

Sorry 'Bored', but unless you were there on the ground you do not know who was firing those missiles. All you would have seen is a bit of film of where they hit and that is not evidence as to who fired them. The Russians are masters at propaganda so I am sceptical to say the least.

I think that in a couple days we'll know the true goals of Russians anyway, apparently the Georgians are promising to remove their troops from South Ossetia. I hope that I'm right and Russia only wants a return to the pre-conflict situation.

I agree though that there are no wrong or right sides here at all. I just don't like how Georgia is blatantly pursuing its political goals with total disregard to the lives/well-being of the Ossetians.

So are you saying Russians (and Northern Ossetians) would fire missiles at their own citizens south across the border just to shoot some film and put the blame on Georgia? Don't you think it's a bit far-fetched? In any case pretty much all news agencies report that the Georgians initiated the attack on Ossetia, I guess you disbelieve them all also?

South Ossetia is a Georgian province that the Russians are annexing having expelled Georgians since 1992 and putting in Russian residents. It is essentially a land-grab by the Russians.
The Georgians are obviously slightly peed-off, but I agree that if Ossetia is allowed a democratic vote then independence should be allowed. However, does anybody seriously believe that the Ossetians will be allowed true independence under the Russians. I think not!!!

I really do not think the Ossetia is worth a war but if the Russians try invading and taking over Georgia then the West must act to expel them to maintain the rule of democracy and a free West.
