The biggest difference for me is when thinking about money coming in - not going out.

So - when I was a kid, I used to try and figure out where I could earn the next £1.

When I was at Uni, I used to figure out where the next £10 was coming from.

When I got my first job, I used to figure out where the next £100 was coming from.

Later in my permie days, I used to figure out where my next £1k was coming from.

Now - as a contractor, I try to figure out where my next £10k is coming from.

    That's contractig for you

I thought contracting was where the bank rang you and said "What do you want us to do with your current surplus?"

When you started to become a big-time contractor did money start losing it's value to you? I mean, did losing a £10 or spending a few quid more on something than perhaps you should... matter so much?
I wouldn't say that money has lost its value to me, but.........

I was never one to spend money on toys, and I still don't.

I have never collected "things" and I still don't.

I have never owned a car, so don't feel the need to upgrade.

I will happily spend money on holidays around the world. I could never afford that when I was a permie.

I usually can't be bothered to polish my own shoes so I think nothing of paying £3 for someone else to do it.
