If all of the available (favourable) genetic traits have been adopted through the evolution process then I suppose that is having "stopped evolving".

A species can't stop evolving (assuming that Darwin fella was right). Have you been on those Creationist websites?

Having a large meteorite land certainly seemed to stop them evolving very effectively.

I thought that theory was under serious doubt (as they didn't go extinct quickly). Having said that the old meteorite theory gave me a gift of a question for Biology A level (Iridium poisoning = constipation or something like that)

AIUI, they died out over a long time because the dust cloud from the meteorite took a while to block out the sun and kill off the bottom of the food chain.
