I'm not really a fan of Lancashire cheese but it does make good Cheese and Onion pies...

Anyway, time to pack and bugger off to Inverary!

      Have a pleasant day all!

There is a classic quote on that one I've never heard before:

The Scottish variant of this dish is also referred to as a Glasgow salad.

The thing I find hard to understand with the Scottish hatred of the English is that is stems from battles that were fought hundreds of years ago. Were they within living memory or a generation or two ago I could almost understand it. So either these people are too pig thick to appreciate that people living today in no way influenced or benefited from, an event that happened centuries ago, or they are just pig thick and use historical events as an excuse for bigotry.

Anyway, don't get me started on those bloody Danes!!

Sorry, I wasn't trying to claim the first, it was an observation from my travels and not my usual Scottish xenophobia.
That phrase raises anothe issue. I was pulled up for using Scotch to refer to anything Scottish and told it should be Scots, Scotch being whiskey or is that whisky.

Can you expand what Wikki says (and is it accurate).
I am not qualified to give the above advice!

It's plain wrong though. The 'Glasgow Side Salad' is actually a plate of chips. But then you can't expect Wiki to be right even half of the time.

Actually beg to differ. You'll find it's a pretty common occurrence in any small country neighboured by a much bigger one. There are many reasons for it, generally coming down to perceived English arrogance, cultural dominance, political neglect etc. The battles hundreds of years ago are just things to sing about.

Bigotry is almost always an excuse for no-hope poor people to claim some sort of moral prevanance for their jealous sniping of those who have what they want. Scotland has historically been quite a poor country compared with the rich agriculture of the south, and this is reflected in the attitudes in history.

It should be noted that the southern parts of Scotland which shared in the English richness of agriculture and industry have always historically been hard against any sort of uprising or rebellion against the English. Glasgow was Hanoverian in sympathy, and many of the people fighting on the 'English' side at Culloden were actually from the Scottish lowlands - some estimates put more Scottish soldiers against Bonnie Prince Charlie on the Hanoverian side than fighting for him.

But then bigots are rarely interested in actual history.

Well Culloden was more of a religious/civil war - the lowlands were protestant, the highlands catholic etc.
