Even if they're likely to tell you you're wasting your time, it's probably the best thing to do. Don't call him! Write down what you remember in detail, while you remember it.

Call your insurance company and register the incident. They can advise you on how to proceed.

Call your local constabularies non-emergency number (generally found on their website). If they tell you they're not interested then at least you haven't wasted a trip...

I'd ring your insurance company and tell them about the pills. Case closed - where do I send my invoice for my advice?
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

        I preferred version 1!

If it was 2 lanes merging into 1 then insurances will probably rule 50-50 liability, even if he was just changing lanes, in slow moving traffic and without any independant witnesses then again it will probably be 50-50.

Apart from "the principle of it", it probably isn't worth the bother for either of you to go claiming from the insurance, especially with the possible loss of no claims bonus and the excess.

Aside from that though, it was his fault and he is an impatient git for trying to push in with the other car. He should have waited for a gap or a visual signal from yourself.

            my advice,

as you believe you were in the right,

I would suggest to call or visit the the local police station today, tell them what happened, and ask them what to do about it - this way you have everything out in the open and no surprises to fear - perhaps do it at lunch time.

If you just wait and see what happens, you run the risk of not reporting an accident to the police etc

            what do you think

            Milan.

Do they have toilets at the old bill station? You could boycott the library for the police station!

question now is, do I phone him and warn him off, or give him enough rope to hang himself

Phone the police, tell them that you thought at the time; that he appeared a little unsteady on his feet (possibly under the influence of alcohol). then on arriving at work, you read the details that he had given you and realized that they were written on the carton of a daily drug prescription, that warns the user not to drive. ask them what you should do.

Should be good for a laugh if nothing else

Yeah, that'd be my temptation. try to pin it on him, hint at dangerous driving or driving without due care. Attack is the best form of defence.
