If they came looking for intelligent life, I'm afraid we won't see them againThe court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.
But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.” -

I didn't say, "statistics say we should be in contact with alien life."So like you say, statistics say we should be in contact with Alien life.
I said, "Statistically speaking, it would almost be inconceivable that other life did not exist elsewhere in the universe".
As for contact...I explained that due to the vast distances in space, getting from A to B in a meaningful time scale is not possible.
um...can you please elaborate on that Owl ?Owlhoot : For example, accelerating at a steady 1g for a month gets you to about 0.99c and you could reach to the nearest star 4 light years away in about three months.
As far as I understand, if light takes 4 years to get here from that star, then assuming your spaceship travels at the speed of light, it will take the same time to get to the star, eg, 4 years. (I'm not concerned with the passage of time outside the ship on planet Earth. I'm focussing on the travel time of the ship exclusively)
Since nothing travels faster than the speed of light, we have a maximum, unmovable limit of the time taken to get to the star, eg, 4 years.
Where do you get your 3 months from ?Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
