Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset are in the "South" and have a fair bit of countryside.
The trouble with the "North" is that it's so far away from anywhere else (Except Scotland).
I live in the North and I find Rome, Brussels, Paris and Munich etc are much easier and cheaper to get to than the South.
You are right about confusing South with London, but I usualy find that Southerners who are not from the Metrolopse tend to have less of an attitude to the North.
I am not qualified to give the above advice!

Really? Flying to Moscow is a real bitch from Newcastle. Two flights instead of one, but I guess (as with most things) it depends on your individual circumstances.
"See, you think I give a tulip. Wrong. In fact, while you talk, I'm thinking; How can I give less of a tulip? That's why I look interested."

If you are talking north east or cumbria then maybe, it's 1hr 45 to london from my nearest train station.
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.
But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

<pedant> Suffolk and Kent are only 50 miles from Lunnen and is still as rural as it gets, and is still the South East.
I though Suffolk was classified as East?

Spot on, having lived, both North and South and Midlands (they always get forgotten), I'd have to say it's more grim down south, with a few exceptions.
I much prefer countryside to concrete.
The middlands don't get forgotten they just get overlooked as theres nothing there other than the motorway joining the North to the South....
Yeh i think it is in terms of London-centric BBC news programmes who think that Northamptonshire is 'the north' , but geographically, it's south east of the UK.
