Although I did read that HM Govt would be withholding contracts from those copanies who didn't have a good enough 'ratio' - so a stick but no carrot.

Again, not quite. Companies bidding for public sector contracts could be required to submit their equality policies as part of the bid documentation but would not have to meet "quotas" for their ethnic balance.

The other part of it is that there could be a requirement for companies to publish their pay ratios, either voluntarily or as a result of an employment tribunal, to highlight gaps between pay rates for men and women.

With the implied threat that it would be taken into account.

Yes, if you have a policy you can submit a bid. There is no enforcement of ratio's of women/ethnic minorities.

There is no compunction for them to do so and they would still have to show that the result would be an improvement in the reperesentation of either group in the work place.

It's still a change but not quite in the Daily Mail headline league.

                  cant believe i heard that

i think i will leave the country and go somewhere where i am an ethnic minority

because obviously other countries will reciprocate with this kind of thing right?

Getting Government contracts should be a no-brainer for me then, because my company recuitment policy is:

                    females 100% (myself)
                    males 0%
