Although I did read that HM Govt would be withholding contracts from those copanies who didn't have a good enough 'ratio' - so a stick but no carrot.Cooking doesn't get tougher than this. -
Again, not quite. Companies bidding for public sector contracts could be required to submit their equality policies as part of the bid documentation but would not have to meet "quotas" for their ethnic balance.Originally posted by TheBigYinJames View PostAlthough I did read that HM Govt would be withholding contracts from those copanies who didn't have a good enough 'ratio' - so a stick but no carrot.
The other part of it is that there could be a requirement for companies to publish their pay ratios, either voluntarily or as a result of an employment tribunal, to highlight gaps between pay rates for men and women."Being nice costs nothing and sometimes gets you extra bacon" - Pondlife.Comment

Yes, if you have a policy you can submit a bid. There is no enforcement of ratio's of women/ethnic minorities.Originally posted by TheBigYinJames View PostWith the implied threat that it would be taken into account."Being nice costs nothing and sometimes gets you extra bacon" - Pondlife.Comment

They have said that, all other things being equal, the employer would be permitted to discriminate in favour of women or ethnic minorities.
There is no compunction for them to do so and they would still have to show that the result would be an improvement in the reperesentation of either group in the work place.
It's still a change but not quite in the Daily Mail headline league.Comment
