The Phoenix Mars lander has successfully collected water ice in one of its onboard instruments.

"water was positively identified after the lander's robotic arm delivered a soil sample on Wednesday to the TEGA instrument"

One thing I haven't seen mentioned in the press anyway is the implication that there are underground seas on Mars. And if this is the case, could they be mapped using some kind of geo-phys? If you're after life, that surely is where you should be looking.
Any knowledgeable types out there to enlighten?

If I land a gig there, can I claim mileage? Or would it take longer than 2 years to get there/back?
