Well done, I have friends who work in research labs, they aren't however experts on climate change. You of all people should realise, one badly written journalistic piece does not match a body of evidence. As soon as there is a body of alternative opinion presented by credible people and those not funded by the oil industry I'll start to take it more seriously. The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.
But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.” -
I don't believe journos any more than I believe Govt sponsored scientists. I don't think the case is proven. I'm quite happy to take precautionary measures in the meantime.Originally posted by Bagpuss View PostYou of all people should realise, one badly written journalistic piece does not match a body of evidence. Not so. You can get accurate climate records, going back hundreds of thousands of years, in all kinds of ways - Ice cores, ocean sediment cores, even moon rock (to study how solar flux has changed over time).Originally posted by Moscow Mule View PostWhat I find amusing is that "man" is trying to understand a process that occurs over 1000s of years with data from 200 years (ish).
You can make almost any theory fit the data if you pick and choose what you look at. We'll need to be around a lot longer before it's properly understood.Comment

As someone with 3 degrees, you of all people should know that science cannot really "prove" anything. Hypotheses are formulated, in this case "man's actions are causing global warming" and the balance of evidence for and against is examined. Currently, if you ignore the shrill hysteria on both sides, I believe the evidence supports this hypothesis.Originally posted by TheBigYinJames View PostI don't believe journos any more than I believe Govt sponsored scientists. Then you are probably not that different in opinion to myself. From what I understand in simple terms, climate change is happening, we don't know if it is exacerbated by man, but it probably is.Originally posted by TheBigYinJames View PostI don't believe journos any more than I believe Govt sponsored scientists. I don't dispute, Governments are using the issue to sell taxes, and are claiming man is to blame, and trying to marginalize those who don't believe (or have an open mind). Which is just as bad as those who are convinced it is not happening. Science is about keeping an open mind and keeping emotions and politics out of conclusions. The government can't do it, and some here are the same. The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

Just to elaborate more on that :Originally posted by TimberWolf View PostAnd from Beetles.
QEDLate-glacial and early Holocene climatic conditions have been reconstructed for northern Europe using the mutual climatic range (MCR) palaeoclimate method based on fossil coleopteran assemblages. Altogether, beetle faunas from 77 sites have been analysed ranging from Ireland in the west to Poland and Finland in the east, and MCR estimates calculated.
