Failed to get SC Security Clearance

    Hi all,

This is the 1st time I've posted on here so sorry if I've broken any rules.

Basically, early April I was offered a job at HMPS on condition that the SC Clearance came back OK. I filled in all relevant forms etc and then got told 3 weeks ago I hadn't been granted the SC clearance. I still don't know why.

On the forms, I was honest about the police caution I received at age 14 (24 years ago), the seatbelt spot fine and speeding offences. So why the hell have I been denied SC clearance. Has anybody been in this position before?

The only things that I reckon may have caused problems for me are as follows:

    either

    a) I have an estranged brother who has served time and is generally not of good character

    or

    b) I let my property out 2-3 years ago thru a letting agency. I have since learnt that the tennant did a spell in jail during the tenancy and also built up lots of debts whislt he lived there

What do you all reckon. a or b?

Also, how the hell do I find out why I have failed. The agency and HMPS are unable to give me any information.

Thanks for any advice any of you can give.

    MC

Let me guess you're name is mike and you were born in 1970. Tell you what give me your full address and mother's maiden name and I'll tell you why...

Just a guess, but you are applying for the Prison Service, and your brother is an ex-con. You'd have access to other con's details via the system.

I don't think they're saying you're a bad'un, just that you could possibly put in a vulnerable position with that particular role, should brother find out and decide to be un-estranged?
Oh, I’m sorry….I seem to be lost. I was looking for the sane side of town. I’d ask you for directions, but I have a feeling you’ve never been there and I’d be wasting my time.

        Who knows?

        It could be your brother.

It could be your tenant. (I doubt it as debts are linked to the person not the landlord unless he stole your ID for a few of them.)

It could be your own credit record.

It could be your speeding and seatbelt offences.

Or it could be another member of your close family who is more crooked then you know.

If I understand correctly, this kind of thing is exempt.

Firstly, you signed the official secrets act as part of completing the form so you've just commited a "no no"!

Why? Does the fact you've failed SC become secret as soon as it happens?

Everything about that form is covered by the OSA.

I read the post five minutes ago, I think I am being followed.
I'll go to the loo, climb out the window and go down a manhole, come up in the carpark and come back in through reception. See if they are still on my tail.
